Consignment Guidelines

Sea Chest Consignments is a NON-PROFIT operation staffed by volunteers.   The Shop proceeds benefit Seawinds Charity, Inc. Seawinds Charity, Inc. provides funds for various Human Service Organizations on   the South Shore chosen by a majority vote of the volunteers.

At  Sea Chest Consignments, we go out of our way to make the consignment process easy for all parties involved. By doing so, we can sell more items in a shorter amount of time, thus increasing the funds we raise for nonprofit organizations on the South Shore of Boston. To get a better idea of our consignment program, read our guidelines below.

Evening Hours for consigning/sales are scheduled in Spring and Fall (dates on annual calendar).

Important Details

  • The consignor split with the shop is 50% / 50%
  • All items have a 20% markdown at 3 weeks and 50% markdown at 6 weeks
  • The consignment expires at 6 weeks with no payment going to the consignor. Items become shop property and continue to be offered for sale.
  • If consignors do not want their items to become shop property, they must remove their items before the expiration date listed on each consignment receipt.
  • We ask consignors to bring their own packing materials for item retrieval.

Our limit on clothing is 10 items every 2 weeks. This number is subject to change depending on inventory.

Bric-A-Brac Guide

We Accept:

Our limit on bric-a-brac is 20 items per day. Battery-operated items must have a working battery when consigned.

Items We Do Not Accept:

* unless new and in original packaging

Reminders

To maintain the quality of the goods we sell, and to maximize the use of our space, we reserve the right to reject items for consignment. This is not personal, and it is never our intent to offend anyone, so please bear with us. We will remove, without notification, any outdated goods found in our stock as well as items with stains, tears, cracks, chips or other visible defects not noted at the time of consignment. Our goal is to keep the shop stocked with a great array of offerings to keep our customers coming back.

Additional Notes:

  • Items are priced by the volunteers—your input is welcome
  • All merchandise is tagged with automatic markdown dates. Prices are reduced 20% at 3 weeks. You may remove your items at any time before the consignment expiration date listed on your receipt. Please bring your receipt when removing items.
  • For our Bi-Annual Clearance Sales, all clothing items are reduced!!!  
    • Holiday and Bric/Brac items will be reduced at the end of the season and//or to make shop space available... Only bric-a-brac items (excepting holiday) owned by the store are put on clearance.
    • Items may be removed up to 2 days before the sale
    • No items may be removed during or after the sale
  • Seasonal or holiday bric-a-brac items will be reduced at the end of season and to make shop space available
  • All items that are not sold become shop property and may be given to charity after the sale(s) – there is no compensation paid to the consignor after the first week of the sale
  • All checks will be mailed within the first 2 weeks of the month – checks are void after 90 days

ALL CONSIGNMENTS ARE LEFT AT YOUR OWN RISK - SHOP IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS as disclosed on each consignor receipt signature stamp.

                 Any items left in our back room during non-consigning hours are considered a donation to the shop.
